McMafia is an eight-part crime drama for the BBC, AMC and Amazon Prime Video. Principal photography took place in twelve countries over nine months. Its co-creator and director James Watkins will discuss its journey from script to screen: from the inception of the idea, through the process of scriptwriting, financing, logistics of the long shoot and the challenges of post-production. He will discuss the similarities and differences between creating feature films and television dramas. He will also offer an outsider’s perspective on the wonderful opportunities of filming in Croatia.

JAMES WATKINS

James Watkins directed The Woman In Black (2012), the most successful British horror film since records began. He made his directing debut with the critically acclaimed thriller Eden Lake (2008), which won the Empire Award for Best Horror, the Jury Prize at Sitges Fantasy Film Festival and Best Director at Fantasporto. James has written screenplays for Warner Bros, Working Title, Pathé, Film Four and BBC Films. Before co-creating and directing all episodes of crime drama McMafia, he directed an episode of Black Mirror for Netflix.
