„I’m not that smart, but I’m honest”, says 30-year-old Paula on her return to Paris after a long absence. We soon find out her self-perception is not very reliable. With an empty wallet, no plans for the future or a place to stay, Paula is resolute in one thing – to start a new life in Paris. Annoyingly nonchalant, Paula’s favourite survival method is improvisation. And a lot of enthusiasm. But many things will go downhill for the free-spirited protagonist. The film won the Camera d’Or Award in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Léonor Serraille is only the second female winner of this prestigious prize. It’s worthy of mention that the creative part of the crew of this film, praised for its layered and intriguing protagonist, is almost exclusively made up of female authors.
