The films selected for this year’s Horizons Section are just half of those featured in the Official Competition at the 74th Venice IFF. The program aims to summarise the variety of short films that Mostra screens at each edition. We aim to show our audience the best and most varied contemporary cinematic short film experience. Every year, we try to feature works from different countries and continents, as well as of different genres – from drama to animation, from comedies to documentaries. Moreover, all our films are required to be world premieres.
For the Zagreb Film Festival, I have selected five films: You Will Be Fine by Céline Devaux is the winner of the Orizzonti Corti Lion and the European Film Award nominee for Venice; Aria by Myrsini Aristidou, a coming-of-age story shot à la Scorsese; Mon amour, mon ami by Adriano Valerio, a touching documentary on two lonely souls; Astrometal by Efthimis Kosemund Sanidis, an acid trip during a hot summer night in Greece; Death of a Sound Man by Sorayos Prapapan, a political comedy and satire set in contemporary Thailand.
