Summer of 1993. Following the death of her mother who suffered from AIDS, six-year-old Frida moves to the countryside to live with her uncle Esteve, aunt Marga, and their little daughter Anna. Frida finds the rural life quite challenging. Time seems to have a different rhythm in her new home, and the idyllic nature feels mysterious and strange. Another novelty is the little sister she needs to take care of while trying to cope with new emotions, such as jealousy. Her mother’s illness is treated like a badge of shame nobody wants to talk about, while Frida is pained by not knowing why her mother died. Before the summer ends, Frida and her new family will learn to adapt to each other, ultimately finding love for one another. Summer 1993 is this year’s Spanish Oscar entry.
