In a small Sicilian village, 13-year-old Giuseppe disappears into thin air. He is the son of a mafia hitman who has started cooperating with the police. Luna, Giuseppe’s classmate in love with him, refuses to accept he is gone. She cries out against the “code of silence” shrouding the island and delves into the dark world of the criminal underground, which swallowed the boy up. Inspired by a true event that shocked Italy, this genre mixture of thriller and gothic fairytale is a supernatural story about the loss of innocence and criticism of the intimidated society indifferent to the cruel, crime-imbued everyday life. The Grassadonia/Piazza duo’s film Rita was pronounced the best short film at the 8th ZFF. Their feature film Salvo was screened at the 2014 ZFF.
