Italian Academy Award entry. Independent sequel to Carpignano’s first film, Mediterraneo, which was screened in the LUX Film Days section of the 2015 ZFF. Teenager Pio Amato lives in A Ciambra, a small Roma community in Calabria. At 14 years of age, his innocent childhood days are far behind him. He drinks, smokes and is one of the few who easily navigates through the various ethnic groups in the area – local Italians, African immigrants and his own Roma people. Pio follows his brother Cosimo everywhere, acquiring different urban survival skills along the way. When Cosimo disappears, Pio needs to decide whether he’s ready to become a man. Keen insight into one of the marginalized communities of southern Italy. The executive producer of the film is Martin Scorsese. It won the Europa Cinemas Label Award at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.
